Indian Government Bans TikTok and 58 Other Chinese Apps

The tensions among India and China were already growing high and now the government of India has decided to ban Chinese applications from the country. The step is clearly the result of the dispute between Indian and China when China after deliberately starting the attack, killed 20 Indian soldiers and injured 70 of them.

The clash happened in Ladakh at the Indo-China border and after the event, the citizens of the country started an unofficial moment encouraging others to ban Chinese products and their applications. The moment marked the beginning of something more serious between both the countries.

But now the Indian Government has given an official slap to China by banning their 59 applications including the one that was one of the highest grossers worldwide such as TikTok, UC browser, etc. The motive behind the initial citizen’s response as well as now the government’s is to give China an economic backlash.

However, as per the sources, the intelligence agencies that encouraged this banning showed the cause to be the violation of terms of usage, compromising users’ privacy, and being used as malware or spyware. As soon as the news came out, the TikTok account of the Indian government that had 1.1 million followers was disabled immediately.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi had earlier also launched a campaign of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ that carried the message to make Indian independent manufacturing and production-wise in order to not be depended on other countries for import again, a large part of which came from China.

The message of his Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign was to buy from the local and be vocal for local and this will help India become stronger. The move was taken by the government just a day after PM Modi announced that India has given China a ‘befitting reply’.

A statement that has been issued by the Government this evening explained the reason behind the banning of these applications. As per the Indian government, the applications that were banned were somehow “engaged in the activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity in India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.”

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information And Technology, the department claimed to receive a message from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Apart from that, they also claim to receive representation from people on ‘security of data and risk to privacy’ as far as some applications are concerned.

In the press release statement, The Indian Government said that the data that was being collected from the users through these applications not only put the privacy of over 130 crore Indian in danger but the mining and profiling of this data is a threat to the national security and defense of India, which is obviously hostile to the integrity and sovereignty of India.

This is a matter of very immediate and deep concerns and required attention instantly therefore the government was forced to take some action about it immediately and in response to that, they have decided to ban the 59 applications from the country.

The citizens of India who were already promoting the ban of Chinese applications are glad to acknowledge this news and the information spread like a fire within the whole country. The incident at Indo-China border in Ladakh had left a deep impact on the sentiments of the country’s citizens and that’s what made them so affirmative in boycotting the Chinese goods immediately.

And now to see the government taking some official actions, it has had the citizens celebrating. Apart from that, the railway contract of Rs. 471 crore between Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and China has also been canceled. Also, the government also made it mandatory to have the ‘country of origin’ mentioned on each product in order to add to the odds against the boycott of Chinese products.
