Today, India boasts of a robust ecosystem for startups and is in fact the third largest in the world, says Union Minister Smriti Irani. She stated that the country now has 84,000 startups operating in 656 districts across India.
If one goes back in time, when India woke up to the startup trend, there were about 720 startups, which was way back in 2014. However, owing to the leadership and drive of Prime Minister Modi, India has emerged as the third largest startup ecosystem, stated the Union Minister.
She pointed out that in 2014 when Narendra Modi assumed office; he had clearly stated that he was aiming at creating an economy where the youth would turn ‘job creators’ instead of remaining job seekers. And this, the PM said should not be the objective of just urban youth, but also those in tier-1,2 and 3 cities of India and rural India.
In keeping with his agenda for India’s economic growth, PM Modi took up various measures like Skill India, Start-up India, Stand-up India, his pet project Make in India, timely Digital India and Mudra Yojana. All the initiatives were chalked out in keeping with the goal of empowering youth from various pockets of the country.
Smriti Irani also added that in the past eight years, India has become world’s fifth largest economy. She further said that the Indian youth have contributed to India’s economic growth under the leadership of PM Modi. Ms Irani revealed that PM Modi believed that youth are the backbone of India and they are the future of our country.
