Uber Shuts Its Mumbai Office

Transport servicing platform Uber Shuts Its Mumbai Office in an attempt to restructure efforts. But the company will still continue to provide its services in the city. The news was confirmed by a close source who is aware of the operations being taken place at the company.

On contacting the company, a spokesperson from Uber said that services of Uber in the city will remain unaffected by this decision and they will continue to render quality service to all the riders of Uber in Mumbai.

The closing of the office in Mumbai was a part of the global restructuring exercise of Uber and the decision was made by the CEO of the company, Dara Khosrowshai himself. In the month of May, the CEO of the company sent out letters to his employees stating that they are deciding to close a total of 45 offices globally and the shut down of the office in Mumbai was the result of that.

Another part of the news also came into light when a source disclosed that many of the employees from the Uber office of Mumbai are expected to work from home in order to manage their services and provide customers towards a better experience with Uber which is also a much-needed step as per the current COVID-19 situation.

Uber has offices in multiple cities in India including a large center in Gurugram and Tech centers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The closing of the Mumbai office will also mean laying off the employees in a large number. However, In May, the company already laid off 600 employees in India due to the business loss amid the pandemic.
