Hyderabad, 5th June 2025- An Expert Talk program was successfully conducted at Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus (Autonomous), Hyderabad, under the banner of Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) – 7.0, marked World Environment Day – 2025. The event was held with great enthusiasm, aligning with this year’s global theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” highlighting the urgent need to address and combat the growing plastic crisis.
The event, which began at 11.00 a.m., saw enthusiastic participation from students, and faculty members. The primary objective was to raise awareness on the current challenges posed by climate change, along with the actions taken globally, nationally, and at the state level.
The event was spearheaded by the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Humanities & Sciences, and Heads of the Departments and Asst. Director (I-B.Tech) welcomed the participants and focused on the pressing theme of climate action, environmental responsibility and to reduce the usage of plastic in our day-to-day life.
Dr. S. Sreenatha Reddy, Director of GNITC welcomed the participants and resource person, elaborating the strategies to arrest climate change, including transitioning to renewables, sustainable use of natural resources, rainwater harvesting, and promoting organic farming.
As part of the celebration, an expert talk was delivered by Dr. J. Sesha Srinivas, Senior Scientist (Retd.), Former Head, Climate Change Centre, Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI), Hyderabad on “Impacts of Climate Change – Global, National and Sub-National Actions” and effectively addressed the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change, along with the actions taken globally, nationally, and at the state level.
As a part of the World Environment Day-2025 celebrations, a poster presentation competition was organized for students on 04th June 2025.The event saw enthusiastic participation, with students creatively showcasing environmental themes and solutions. Winners were awarded prizes and certificates by Dr. S.V. Ranganayakulu, Dean R&D along with the guest at the end of the program, acknowledging their efforts and encouraging continued environmental awareness and action.
In the concluding segment, Dr. Srinivas emphasized the power of individual action in tackling climate change. He inspired the audience to adopt sustainable lifestyles and environmental responsibility. As a collective pledge toward environmental protection, he administered an oath on water conservation, which was taken by all participants. The oath was as follows:
- I pledge to conserve water and use it judiciously. I also take an oath that I will use water properly.
- And I will list every point of water and I will promote the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign, I will give / support.
- I would consider water a precious asset
- I swear I would also like to inform my family, friends and neighbours about it.
- This planet is ours and only we can save it and secure our future.
