India’s First Private 5G Airport PoC: A Milestone in Industry–Government – futuristic academia Collaboration

BSNL INITIATION FIRST TIME IN INDIA UNDER CNPN PRIVATE 5G NETWORK PoC WITH SOME OF THE AIRPORT USE CASES at GMR Rajiv Gandhi International(RGI) Airport is

a milestone in the communication era in India. The Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstration of the first private 5G deployment (CNPN) at Rajiv Gandhi International (RGI) Airport showcases India’s advancing capabilities with use cases in airport operations and private-sector collaboration.

This PoC represents India’s first private 5G deployment tailored specifically for airport use cases.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between GMR, a leading provider of airport infrastructure, and BSNL, a Government of India public-sector organization, along with several BSNL-affiliated technology startups and OEM partners.

The Industrial proposal was initiated & designed by Dr. M. SATYA PRASAD DGM BSNL VISAKHAPATNAM & his team with empaneled OEMs, System Integrators, and Startups. The Make in India equipment displaced in the POC are 5G Core equipment with Routers & Switches from TIDAL WAVE, Radio equipment from CREST. BSNL arranged the Indoor/outdoor CPEs, Gateways & 5G SIM-based cameras.

The airport use cases were demonstrated by the Startups Dwaj Technologies, displaying industry-critical solutions with different types of solutions with a unified gateway supporting various APIs, Enterprise Minds (EM) provided the Video Management Solutions (VMS) with AI analytics.

the PoC marks a pivotal step toward fulfilling the National Vision & Mission of Industry 4.0. with Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)

BSNL is establishing a state-of-the-art Incubation Center at the Research and Innovation Hub of Guru Nanak Institutions/Guru Nanak University, featuring industry use cases. The center will be equipped to develop industry-specific solutions, conduct PoCs, and support testing activities.

The collaboration among BSNL, startups, OEMs, and academic researchers embodies a collaborative approach to building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and advancing real-world industrial PoCs.

Dr. H. S.
