Flipkart Introduces ‘Dark Stores’ Deliveries For Overcoming Competitors

The e-commerce giant is coming up with new ways in order to have an upper hand on its competitors and in an attempt for the same, Flipkart launches ‘Dark Store Deliveries’. The service will be available in only a few cities in India. The ‘dark stores’ introduced by Flipkart are the outlets used for nearby deliveries.

This is being considered as a take of Flipkart on Reliance’s JioMart which was announced recently in the month of May. The plan of Walmart-controlled e-commerce major seems to be ramping up the everyday-use items such as grocery, food, etc. storage capacity and increasing the number of small storage spaces consisting of 3,000 to 4,000 sq. ft.

The main focus of Flipkart at the moment seems to be metro cities. They are aggressively looking to expand the hyperlocal business in cities such as Kolkata, Pune, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, etc.

Just recently Flipkart also rolled out another of its plans that currently works only in Bengaluru. The feature is called ‘Flipkart Quick’ and it provides two hour delivery of various items in some parts of Bengaluru.

“In addition to their plans to use kirana stores, they are creating their own independent network of such storage facilities in various cities,” as revealed by an anonymous source.

“For example, in Delhi city, they are looking to have about a dozen such small storage facilities, to begin with. The fast-moving goods will be frequently supplied to such small storages from the fulfillment centers outside of the city.”
