“Empowering Innovation: Guru Nanak Institutions Hosts Pioneering Skill Development Program on Advanced Digital Fabrication”

Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus (GNITC) proudly hosted an impactful six-day Skill Development Program(SDP) on “Product Design and Development Using Advanced Digital Fabrication Techniques” from December 9 to December 14, 2024, at its state-of-the-art GNITC-IDEA Lab. Spearheaded by the IDEA Lab Gurus—Mr. T.V. Seshi Reddy, Mr. Ch. Jeevan Kumar, and Mr. G. Venkatesh from the Department of Mechanical Engineering—the program aimed to empower participants with cutting-edge manufacturing expertise in CNC routing, laser cutting and engraving, and 3D printing, transforming innovative concepts into tangible creations.

This pioneering initiative, envisioned under the leadership of Vice Chairman of Guru Nanak Institutions, Chancellor of Guru Nanak University,  Sardar Gagandeep Singh Kohli and Managing Director of Guru Nanak Institutions and Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak University  Dr. H.S. Saini, was formally inaugurated by Dr. S. Sreenatha Reddy, Director of Guru Nanak Institutions Technical Campus, and Chief Mentor of AICTE-IDEA Lab, alongside dignitaries including Dr. P. Parthasaradhy, Joint Director; Dr. Rishi Syal, Coordinator and Associate Director o; and Dr. S.V. Ranganayakulu, Co-coordinator of AICTE-IDEA Lab and Dean of R&D.

The program’s meticulously designed schedule offered participants an immersive journey into advanced fabrication technologies:

  • Day 1: A deep dive into 3D printing, its evolution, applications, and revolutionary technologies like SLA, FDM, SLS, Polyjet, and EBM.
  • Day 2: Comprehensive training in Cura software, covering critical aspects such as profile settings, extruder selection, infill optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Day 3: Practical experience with the Metaform Pro-500 3D printer, providing hands-on exposure to rapid prototyping.
  • Day 4: Operation of a CNC router using ArtCAM software and panel controllers for precision machining.
  • Day 5: Advanced modeling techniques in ArtCAM to generate intricate tool paths for CNC routing.
  • Day 6: Mastery of RD Works software for CO2 laser engraving and cutting, enabling participants to design and produce complex prototypes.

The IDEA Lab Gurus played a pivotal role in mentoring participants throughout the program, ensuring their concepts were translated into high-quality prototypes. The grand finale showcased each team’s innovative projects, demonstrating the application of advanced digital fabrication techniques to real-world challenges.

The event culminated in a formal certificate distribution ceremony, presided over by Dr. S. Sreenatha Reddy and Dr. S.V. Ranganayakulu, who commended the participants for their creativity and technical proficiency, marking the program’s resounding success.
