From lonely Lockdown to a thriving Business

The story behind India Cuisine, a Kolkata-Based start-up has an inspiring story to tell.

In March’2020 due to pandemic whole India has been lock-down and because of the fear of infection people are bound to sit at home. Umashankar was no different from other people.

In Bengal people are in the habit of eating a sweet after their meal. His family is also following the same tradition but after few days of lock-down they are out of stock with their sweets and after every meal feel the craving of a sweet, at times they might having homemade sweets but always miss the taste of authentic Bengali, desi ghee and dry fruits sweets, here the story of India Cuisine has been started.

“I always wanted to start my e-commerce business and during Lock down got time to shape my dream. As, everyone was sitting idle at their home, so do I, my trading business was also suffering. Because of my craving of sweets, the idea of an e-commerce venture of West Bengal cuisine struck to my mind, my wife Shruti has also supported me and said -instead of worrying about existing business why not research on the idea. Now, I was determined that I will fulfill my dream. – said Umashankar

“As being from Kolkata I was well aware about the delicacies of West Bengal, and in today’s e-world, everything is available at your fingertips. I started research on authentic local Brands and realized that they have gained years of faith and recognition worldwide, yet unorganized. I saw huge potential in this sector and now my dream is to provide the Cuisines of West Bengal with every Indian meal.” – said Umashankar.

After making a thorough research Umashankar has started to work on his e-commerce website and during his endeavor his wife Shruti has full involvement with him, as she is a professional so she has full contribution in the Business.

The website is user friendly, different sections for special occasions and categories, so that everyone can experience a hassle-free shopping. Site is also having an SSL certificate to keep personal information safe and to provide its customers secured payment gateway.

They launch the e-commerce website, selling best quality authentic renowned and local cuisines of West Bengal across India, everyone knows that Kolkata is famous for its sweets, crunchy snacks (specially muri) and of-course Darjeeling tea, but very few know that there are so many cuisines and food products which are not so famous but heart-beat of food lovers like Bengali masalas, crunchy fryums, after meal, Bengali snacks (tok jhaal.mishti chanachur, jhaal chanachur), and many more. As a well said phrase about Kolkata “city of joy” and people here are food-lovers.

 

“In, India Cuisine, we are dealing with directly owner or distributor of the brand. Now, our dream is to serve the delectable cuisines of West Bengal with every Indian meal. Kolkata has witnessed many successful start-ups and we want to set a next landmark in the same.” – said Umashankar.

They have authentic Bengali, desi ghee, dry fruits – mouthwatering sweets, you will not get enough of them. A new venture brought with its own set of problems, especially while dealing with those had no prior experience with e-commerce, and packing for online deliveries.

Daunting at first, all these problems were overcome one by one using Umashankar’s trading Business’s experience and Shruti’s ideas.

With process automation, easy-to-follow instructions, specialized food grade packing material, and Direct money transfer, sellers began to get a comfort feeling.

“Due to pandemic everyone was well aware about hygiene and safety, and we have spoken to every seller in detail to ensure that extra safety precautions are followed for every single order. Our courier partners also have SOP they follow for sanitization of vehicles, packages and contact free delivery” – said Shruti.

 

They have started their venture from 1st of January’2021 with 51 products and 5 categories, presently dealing in 174 products, and 9 categories. Completed few deliveries across India, having more than 25 positive comments and 5-star rating on all their reviewed products. Initially, started with 2 now a team of 5. On 1st of February’2021, they have also launched a gift section on their website. Offering special-discounts on gifts for weddings, birth announcements, birthdays, and other occasions that are on-of-a-kind.

This idea is all about convenience to buyers, enables them to order and delivered to their door-step – their favorites sweets, namkeens, after-meals, and food-products, which they heard about and dreamt to taste them.
